Student Assistants

Functions:
1. To help maintain the library in efficient working order
2. To acquire specialized skills and knowledge relating to various aspects of the media center

Duties:
Most student assistants will be assigned one or more of the following tasks (However, responsibilities are not limited to just these.):
- Shelving books
- Reading/straightening shelves
- Updating and filing magazines
- Updating and filing catalogs
- Running errands
- Creating displays and bulleting boards
- Working at the circulation desk
- Dusting, straightening, and cleaning the media center or computer labs
- Assisting with special projects

Other Responsibilities:
1. Participating in an online wiki developed by Ms. Holleman
2. Creating a glog about being a student assistant
3. Typing at least one set of Battle of the Books questions
4. Passing at least 3 RC tests within your reading range
5. Creating one booktalk for the broadcast or 2 book reviews for the Media Wiki

Steps to Become a Student Assistant in the Media Center:
1. Student Application -Ms. Holleman will have these available at the end of each semester. You may not find out until schedules are out at the beginning of the following term.
2. Teacher Evaluation -Teachers will be ask to evaluate students with an interest in working in the media center on their experience with each student in the following areas:
- Organization
- Use of time
- Motivation, work ethic
- Ability to work independently
- Trustworthiness
- Focus and ability to prioritize
- Positive attitude
- Ability to follow through
3. Attendance and other scheduling conflicts can affect you opportunity to work in the media center also.
