I am constantly asked to explain lexiles. The following are a collection of resources that answer the big questions you might have.

What is it?  What does it mean?

Why? There are a number of ways a lexile measure can assist in helping a student be more successful as a reader. This article outlines most of them.

When? At North Wilkes Middle, students may take a SRI test to measure their reading and lexile level for the beginning of the year. A lexile reading measure is also used at the end of the year with the EOG score. There may be periodic benchmarks throughout the year to monitor progress as well.

How? The SRI test through the Reading Counts program at the beginning of the year and End-of Grade test at the end are standard. Again, others may occur as well.
